Small-group tours in Georgia and the Caucasus
Scheduled departures capped at 14, with a licensed local guide and everything arranged — join with a single seat.
Small-group tours: all tours
Small-group tours are how most travellers first see Georgia — and, done well, they are the best value in the Caucasus. Our departures are capped at 14 people and usually run with six to ten, in a minibus sized for a mountain road, with a licensed Georgian guide who grew up on the route. The price per person is the lowest we offer, because transport, guide and overnights are shared; what you give up is only the freedom to change the plan on the day.
What a Traverse small-group tour looks like
Fixed dates, published months ahead, so you can book flights around them. One pickup point in central Tbilisi. A pace that leaves room for the things a coach tour skips: the walk up to Gergeti Trinity rather than the car park, a family cellar in Kakheti instead of a showroom winery, the roadside khinkali stop that becomes the story everyone tells at home.
Day trips from Tbilisi — Kazbegi, the Kakheti wine country, Mtskheta and Gori — need nothing but a seat. Multi-day tours to Svaneti, Tusheti and the Black Sea coast include guesthouses chosen for the food and the family rather than the star count, with twin-share rooms as standard and single rooms on request.
Who joins
Solo travellers make up a good share of every group, and a shared minibus is the easiest way to see the mountains without hiring a car. Couples and friends who want the logistics handled. Families with children on the easier routes. Most groups mix several nationalities; guides lead in English, with Russian and Georgian available on every departure and German or French on selected dates.
Beyond Georgia
The same format runs across the border. From Tbilisi, a day among the monasteries of northern Armenia or in the silk-road town of Sheki in Azerbaijan works as a fixed-departure trip, and our Georgia–Armenia week joins the two capitals with the mountains between them. Departure calendars for every country sit on the tour pages; if a date is not listed yet, ask and we will tell you the next one.
Practicalities
Every departure shows whether it is guaranteed: a guaranteed date runs whatever the final numbers. Free cancellation applies up to a few days before departure — the exact window is printed next to every price. Payment only after we confirm your seat. Prices are "from" figures: the rate depends on how many travellers are on the date you pick, and the booking form shows it before you commit.
Frequently asked questions
How big are the groups?
Capped at 14 travellers. Most departures run with six to ten. Vehicles are minibuses or, on mountain routes, 4×4s — never a coach.
Can I join alone?
Yes. Solo travellers are a regular part of every group. On multi-day tours you can share a twin room with another traveller of the same gender or request a single room for a supplement shown at booking.
What happens if the date does not fill?
Departures marked guaranteed run regardless. For others, we confirm or propose the nearest alternative date at least seven days before departure, and you can cancel free if the alternative does not suit.
What language does the guide speak?
Every departure is led in English, with Russian and Georgian available. German- and French-speaking guides run on selected dates, marked on the tour page.
Reviews
What travellers say
“As a solo female traveller I felt completely safe and looked after the whole time. The scenery in Svaneti is unreal and the group was lovely. Traverse thought of everything.”
“Svaneti exceeded every expectation. The guesthouses were simple but the food and the families were incredible. Our guide adapted the hikes to our pace perfectly. This is real Georgia, organised by people who clearly love it.”
“The best sea holiday we've had. Everything was organised — flights, hotel, transfers — and the Georgian-speaking guide made it stress-free. Elafonissi is a dream. We're already asking them about next summer.”
